Volunteer Program
Our Volunteers Make a Real Difference. Become One to See How. Whether you're a teenager, a retiree, or somewhere in between, we want you in our Antelope Valley Hospital Volunteer Services program. We offer one of the most active and diverse volunteer programs of any California hospital, with more than 400 participants in both the hospital and community. We actively recruit volunteers as our hospital grows, and we know that you can bring something unique to our team. We all lead busy lives, but AVH volunteers make the time to give something back to the community, and by doing so, receive an enriching gift in return - the knowledge that each of us is making a positive difference.
Volunteer Options Galore With so many volunteer areas to choose from, there is ample opportunity to do something you truly enjoy. Volunteers at Antelope Valley Hospital contribute thousands of in-service hours each year in such positions as assisting on patient floors, or in the newborn nursery; with clerical assignments; as staff in the gift and thrift shops; in the hospitality department; as patient escorts, or even in pet therapy. We particularly encourage senior volunteers (over 18 years old) and junior volunteers (high school students) to offer their services.
Special Volunteer Groups
Alpha Charter Guild is dedicated to raising funds for patient care and promoting public relations between the hospital and the community at large. Its principal fundraising event is the Hourglass Debutante Presentation Ball, held the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Guild members have worked tirelessly since the first ball in 1965 to provide an outstanding program for participating Antelope Valley youth.
Junior Volunteer Program, established in 1958, is one of the largest in southern California. An average of 200 students volunteer year round. The Volunteer Auxiliary board focuses on involving all Junior Volunteers in ongoing fundraising events. These young people have the advantage of seeing firsthand how important quality healthcare is to the community and how their participation helps meet the individual needs of patients and their families.
Volunteer Auxiliary spearheads raising contributions via activities that include the hospital gift shop, thrift shop, auxiliary bake sale, and seasonal sale events. Some of their past pledges benefited the Women and Infants Pavilion, continuing care nursery, neonatal intensive care unit, labor and delivery, ED expansion, and provided state-of-the-art equipment for the CCU.
Auxiliary Gift Shop operates seven days a week thanks to a team of over forty junior and senior volunteers. Hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Gift Shop offers fresh flowers, live plants and greeting cards, as well as a wide array of seasonal and everyday merchandise for gift giving. The shop takes credit card telephone orders and provides free delivery to patients. To order, call (661) 949-5040. All proceeds go to the current AVH Auxiliary pledge fund to benefit the hospital.
New to You Thrift Shop Everyone loves a thrift shop, and ours offers a wide array of bargains! Located at 329 West Avenue I, it is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All proceeds go to the AVH Auxiliary for their pledge to the hospital.

Lifeline
Lifeline is an easy-to-use personal response service that ensures that older adults living at home get quick assistance whenever it is needed — 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service is simple to use. When you need help, you just press the waterproof Personal Help Button you wear as a pendant or wristband. Within seconds, a certified Lifeline monitor responds, assesses the situation and summons appropriate help, whether it is a neighbor, relative or ambulance. For more information, please call Sandi McClure at 949-5102.
Footprints of the Future
Footprints of the Future, a Volunteer Auxiliary fundraising program, is designed to allow family members to commemorate the birth of a baby while contributing to the needs of Antelope Valley Hospital. The birth of a baby is a time of great joy and pride. Family members are always eager to let everyone know about their precious new arrival. Footprints of the Future offers parents and grandparents a unique way to commemorate the addition of a new family member and at the same time, support Antelope Valley Hospital.
For a contribution of $100, the baby's actual footprint is deeply etched in a satin silver medallion, along with the baby's name and birth date. This medallion is permanently adhered to the Footprints of the Future wall, located on the 3rd floor next to the Hospital's Newborn Nursery. The donor receives a duplicate of this beautifully crafted 3 1/8" diameter medallion which includes a lucite easel for displaying in the home or office. We can also make the medallion into an etched glass Christmas tree ornament. If other family members wish to have a footprint medallion, duplicates can be obtained for a $30 fee.
Any individual born at Antelope Valley Hospital can also be enrolled in the Footprints of the Future program, for the same contribution of $100. The donor simply has to furnish a copy of the birth certificate.
