SARS Advocate Training
Sept. 4 - Sept. 30, 2008
Training sessions will run from Tuesday, September 4, 2008 - Thursday, September 23, 2008. Classes will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm - 10pm and on Saturdays from 10am - 3pm. For participants who are selected to continue with the program there will be three more classes on Thursday, September 25 from 6pm - 10pm; Saturday, September 27 from 10am - 3pm; and Tuesday September 30 from 6pm -10pm. Training sessions will be held at the Antelope Valley Outpatient Imaging Center, 44105 15th Street West, 4th floor, conference room 15 in Lancaster.
Trained victim advocates man a 24-hour crisis line, offer one-to-one crisis counseling, respond to the AVH emergency room/SART Center and provide immediate support for acute survivors and their families. Advocates also support and accompany survivors and their families throughout the court process. Advocates provide community outreach and education for survivors of sexual assault, their families and the community.
Attendance at all sessions is required to be considered for selection as a provisional advocate, who must be at least 18 years of age. A $25 non-refundable fee is required with registration. Bilingual volunteers are needed.
