NICU Visitation Policy

Parents and other designated visitors are welcome in the unit any time of the day or night, except when the nurses are changing shifts (6:30-8:00 am and 6:30-8:00 p.m.). This is a very busy time when many people are in the unit and it can become stressful for your baby if people are visiting during these times. There may be times during doctor’s rounds, certain emergency procedures or special circumstances when you may be asked to leave the unit temporarily so your baby can be properly cared for.

The mother of baby will be asked to identify a maximum of 5 visitors (in addition to herself) who will be allowed to visit the baby in the NICU or Nursery. These 5 visitors may include the father of the baby, grandparents, or any other designated person who is over the age of 12.

Grandparents who are chosen as designated visitors will be allowed to visit without the parents present; other designated visitors may visit when accompanied by one of the baby’s parents. There is a limit of 2 people that can be at the baby’s bedside at any time.

The baby’s siblings (brothers and sisters) are welcome to visit during Family Bonding hours (2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. daily), provided their immunizations are current and they are free of rash, runny nose, fever, earache, or other illness. You will be asked to provide a copy of their immunization record the first time they visit. During Family Bonding hours both parents and one of the baby’s siblings will be allowed at the baby’s bedside. Sibling visits under the age of 6 will be limited to a 30-minute time period. Siblings must be able to sit quietly in a chair at the baby’s bedside.

All visitors must perform a 3-minute scrub prior to entering the baby’s room.

No children other than a baby’s brothers and sisters are allowed in the NICU waiting area if they are younger than 12 years old.

Please sign-out and return all visitor badges to Security after your visit is over.
