Antelope Valley Hospital to Kickoff Weight Loss Challenge on May 25

  • Posted On:

(LANCASTER, Calif.) — Losing weight can be hard work, but there are many health benefits to maintaining a healthy body weight. If you need a little motivation, join Antelope Valley Hospital’s Weight Loss Challenge, which kicks off with a weigh-in and cooking demonstration on Wednesday, May 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the University of Antelope Valley.

Student chefs from the University of Antelope Valley Culinary Arts program will be on hand to prepare low-cost healthy meals for sampling. Recipes will also be provided.

"Losing weight isn’t easy, but we’re going to try to make it fun," said Pat Karnstedt, RN, cancer program coordinator for Antelope Valley Hospital. "Your weight will be kept private. Only the pounds lost will be shared with your approval. And at the end of the challenge, whether you lose a little – or a lot – you will be that much closer to living your best life possible."

Maintaining a healthy body weight can decrease risk of certain cancers and diabetes, lower blood pressure, increase energy, improve sleep and contribute to better heart health.

At the end of the three-month challenge, prizes will be awarded to the three individuals who have lost the most weight. To reserve your spot at the kickoff, call 661-949-5145 by May 20.
