Antelope Valley Hospital Receives Grant from Lockheed Martin

Hospital accepts $500,000 for Personal Protective Equipment

(LANCASTER, Calif. — May. 22, 2020) — As hospitals across the country work to secure personal protective equipment (PPE) for employees and ventilators for patients during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Antelope Valley Hospital (AV Hospital) has received much needed assistance from Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT). The aerospace giant granted $500,000 to the hospital, which will be used to purchase PPE including N95 masks, disposable isolation gowns, Nitrile disposable gloves and ventilators.

“We are very grateful for this generous contribution that will help AV Hospital acquire crisis relief equipment to protect the hospital’s front-line workers and our patients,” said AV Hospital CEO Ed Mirzabegian. “The generosity from Lockheed Martin is a testament to the community working together through this pandemic.”

Mirzabegian said this funding is especially helpful since the AV Hospital Foundation had to cancel its annual fundraising golf tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which typically brings in thousands of dollars for the hospital.

Lockheed Martin Skunk Works® Vice President and General Manager, Jeff Babione, met with Mirzabegian to present the grant.

“At Lockheed Martin, we say your mission is ours. That applies to the men and women of the hospital’s front lines – the men and women who are taking care of our Antelope Valley community, including our employees,” Babione said. “Lockheed Martin is honored to provide this support during this unprecedented time.”

During a visit to the hospital, Babione also awarded Mirzabegian with a custom-made Skunk Works® coin for his outstanding performance during the pandemic. Awarding a challenge coin stems from a military tradition dating back to World War I. Additionally, the company partnered with Lemon Leaf Café to bring 500 bags of treats to AV Hospital employees.
