Blood Donor Center

You can help save lives.

We have a serious donor shortage.
The need for blood is always great. Every 2 seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. This year 30 million blood components will be transfused in the U.S. At AVH, over 250 patients require lifesaving blood transfusions each month. These patients depend on the generosity of volunteer blood donors. However, only 37% of us are eligible to give blood and less than 10% actually do. A shortage of donated blood affects the trauma center and the hospital’s ability to help those in need of blood products. If everyone who could donate blood gave twice a year, it would enable us to meet the needs of our community.

Your lifesaving blood donations can literally mean the difference between life and death to patients requiring blood transfusions every day in the Antelope Valley.

Giving blood is safe, easy and takes less than an hour. (The actual donation only takes about 5‑8 minutes.) Since all blood collected at the AVH Blood Donor Center stays in the Antelope Valley, your generous donation could be helping a friend, co‑worker or loved one right here in our community.

Potential donors must:
  • Be at least 16 years old with written parent/guardian consent
  • Weigh at least 110 pounds
    • Age 16 must weigh at least 120 pounds
  • Be in good health (no colds, flu, infections or unstable health conditions)
  • Not have given blood in the last 8 weeks
  • First time donors must present a picture ID (driver’s license or state ID card)
  • Eat a meal and drink extra fluids before donating
  • Complete a health questionnaire and mini‑physical at time of donation
