Cancer Care (Oncology)

As a Nationally recognized Comprehensive Community Cancer Center, Antelope Valley Hospital (AVH) provides complete and personalized cancer care ‑ from screening to diagnosis to treatment and survivorship. We are dedicated to guiding and supporting each patient and their family through the entire process.

Patients receive comprehensive care, focusing on prevention, screening, early detection, cancer staging, a full complement of chemotherapy protocols, radiation oncology services, surgery, including robotic surgery, and hormone therapy as required. We also offer rehabilitation, life‑long follow‑up for recurrent disease and end‑of‑life care. Patients have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, psycho‑social support, a patient navigator and a survivorship care plan.

Our multidisciplinary team of medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, diagnostic radiologists, oncology certified staff nurses and other specialists collaborate to determine the best course of treatment resulting in improved patient care and better outcomes.

The Antelope Valley has the highest rate of stage 3 and 4 diagnoses of prostate, lung and colorectal cancers in all of Los Angeles County. The local area also has the second highest death rate from lung and colon cancers. In an effort to help reduce these statistics, we offer annual cancer screening and education events to the community as well as an annual cancer symposium for healthcare professionals.

Patient navigation services are available to all Antelope Valley Hospital oncology patients to provide continued supportive services throughout their cancer journey.

The patient navigation program is a free support system for cancer patients that helps improve access to healthcare information, reduce the number of delayed and missed appointments, and increase your overall healthcare experience. The patient navigation team can:

  • Guide you through the healthcare system.
  • Help you fill out insurance forms.
  • Help you find ways to pay for healthcare if you don’t have insurance.
  • Direct you to healthcare services for further diagnosis and treatment.
  • Direct you to local resources and support.
  • Help you keep track of and find ways to get to your appointments.
  • Help you get your questions answered.
  • Help you find more information on healthcare.
  • Provide emotional support.

AVH Patient Navigator Vanessa Labra and Cancer Program Coordinator Christy Monteith work together to help you get the support and information you need. At any stage in cancer diagnosis or the treatment process, you may call the patient navigator at 661‑949‑5194 or the program coordinator at 661‑949‑5145.
