Mammos & Mocktails Event Aims to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

  • Posted On:

Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) and the Antelope Valley Outpatient Imaging Center (AVOIC) are proud to host a Mammos & Mocktails breast cancer screening & educational event on Wednesday October 11, 2023 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at AVOIC, 44105 15th Street West, Suite 100, Lancaster CA 93534. This event is designed to promote breast cancer awareness, encourage early detection, and provide valuable information to the community.

AVMC and AVOIC have teamed up for the third year with City of Hope, Kaiser Permanente, the American Cancer Society, Antelope Valley Cancer Center, Antelope Valley Partners for Health, and Bartz-Altadonna Community Health Center in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

While enjoying music and refreshments, attendees will be encouraged to share stories, engage in physician-led discussions, and are treated to chair massages, nail polish changes, seated yoga demonstrations, raffle prizes and more. The first 100 attendees will receive a free swag bag. Discounted screening mammograms will be available for $50 by appointment only; in addition, we have added free skin cancer screenings, also available by appointment.

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. However, by finding breast cancer early, it can reduce the risk of death by 30% or more. Mammograms are the gold standard in breast screenings and are recommended to be performed annually.

As a nationally recognized Comprehensive Community Cancer Center, Antelope Valley Medical Center provides complete and personalized cancer care—from screening to diagnosis to treatment and survivorship. The medical center is dedicated to guiding and supporting each patient and their family through the entire process. Patients receive comprehensive care, focusing on prevention, screening, early detection, cancer staging, a full-complement of chemotherapy protocols, radiation oncology consultations, surgery and hormone therapy. The hospital also offers rehabilitation, lifelong follow up for recurrent disease and end of life care. Patients have access to information on clinical trials and new treatments, genetic counseling, social support, and a patient navigator to guide them through every step of the way.

This year AVMC is honored to dedicate the Antelope Valley Medical Center Wig Bank to Patricia “Pat” Karnstedt, whom served our community as the Cancer Program Coordinator. Pat spent countless hours of compassionate care and devotion to our cancer patients, and we are delighted to continue her legacy.

To schedule a screening mammogram, please contact the Antelope Valley Outpatient Imaging Center at 661-726-6700.
